Daughters of Promise

Mission: “Saving families through educating our daughters”— One Family at a Time

Purpose Statement: To provide faith-based sex education services to young people and families with a focus on promoting abstinence; increasing family

communication, self-esteem/etiquette, healthy relationships; and decreasing the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases.

Organizational History:

Daughters of Promise is an organization committed to youth development promoting healthy relationships and voluntarism. The programs focuses on developing the potential of girls and improving the community through the effective action and leadership. The purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Daughters of Promise is an abstinence education program.

Ongoing Programming:

•Provide ongoing educational group meetings on abstinence, sex education and self-esteem to adolescent and teen girls

• Expose teenage girls, ages 11-18, to new cultures, events, and activities they normally would not participate in
• Encourage participants to stay in school and do well in their academic work
• Prepare adolescent girls for college

• Provide tutoring and mentoring to at-risk girls

• Help females in dealing with teen issues and peer pressure

• Perform community service projects throughout Jackson County

• Field trips to Michigan universities

• Host a mother daughter retreat for 100 at-risk families in Jackson County

When: Every Second and Fourth Tuesday, 6:30pm-8:00pm

Where:  Martin Luther King Center, 1107 Adrian St., Jackson, Mi

Cost: Free

Refreshments served at every meeting!
